Fish Bread

Today at playgroup with Ms Kay was the last in the ongoing tale of the sea … the wavey sea. In conclusion to it all the kids made breads like these, in the shape of a fish.

Nathan ate about half his fish loaf for dinner – He said it was “Very Nummy”

Got Milk?

Nathan Just LOVES his Milk!

Got Milk?

Well, to be honest it’s more than just milk …
It’s a toddler formula called Progress (from Weath, the S-26 people)
mixed with some new-born Nestle Cereal
and flavoured with some Hersey Strawberry Syrup

Nathan calls it his “Pink Milkshake” – Best enjoyed from a “Winnie-the-Pooh” mug!

The Wavey Sea

The wavey sea ...

It’s been a while since Nathan brought something home from playgroup, but this picture of the wavey sea was worth the wait … There’s a poem that goes with it:

This is the sea, the wavey sea
(action: arm making a wavey sea)
This is a boat …
(action: cupped hand ontop of wavey sea arm)
… and this is me
(action: put a finger in the middle of the boat)
Look at the fishes down below
(action: hand below the boat becomes a fish swimming)
Wiggle their tails …
(action: wiggle ‘em fingers)
… and away they go
… into the wavey sea!

P.S. The sand on the ocean bed is REAL sand, collected on Dubai beach and the shells are REAL maceroni shells :-)

Busy day of Playstation

Looks like Nathan had a busy day – SO busy that he fell asleep playing playstation … *wink*

Grand Hyatt Dubai – IS Department 2004

(This article if for work, but I thought you might be interested)

Roy, Soroush and James - Grand Hyatt IS Department 2004

Our Technology Vision within Hyatt is to Harness new and existing Information and Technology to make better business decisions, improve efficiency and customer satisfaction, enhance revenues, and decrease the cost of doing business.

In other words, unlike the other departments in the Grand Hyatt Dubai, The Information Systems department is most successful when none of you know we’re here, and our efforts are transparent and invisible to you, the end-user.

During 2004 though our most considerable efforts didn’t go totally unnoticed.

We started off in early January 2004 being the first Hyatt Hotel to apply Patch 16 to our Scala 5.1 system. This was pretty uneventful as we upgraded over a mid-month weekend and only a few people noticed Scala was unavailable for no more than 2 hours.

Following that in February we upgraded Infogenesis Revelation from version 2.9 to 3.1 which also went rather smoothly and only effected early morning operations like Market Café and Al Nakheel – By noon all terminals were up and running and most evening staff only noticed the “new” system features three or four days later.

However our upgrade in March from Opera version 2.0.4 to 2.5.3 was a lot more intensive and affected everyone who was lucky enough to be working during those 20 hours of manual posting, excel spreadsheets, new reports not working, and well-controlled chaos.

Things started “cooling” down after that as during April we upgraded the Rendezvous F&B reservation system and May was the month of failed virus upgrades. Initially we upgraded Network Associates VirusScan to version 8.0, but after numerous issues and complaints from users about slow systems, we dropped back down to version 7.1

In June and July we upgraded our Windows 2000 workstations to Service Pack 4 and August was the first time we upgraded our System Management Server to SMS 2003 … We would upgrade it again in November to version 2003 Service Pack 1.

September was also the month where we upgraded Infogenesis a second time, this time to version 3.2 in preparation of our Dine-in-by-Hyatt software. Lotus Domino Mail Server was upgraded from version 5.0.12 to 6.5.2 in October and we also bumped our Opera up from version 2.5.2 to 2.5.3

November and December were used to stablise our network, in particular ensuring our Network Monitoring Systems (Intuit NMS) was working as desired, and also making sure our “cousins” at the Hyatt Regency Dubai had full integration with their new systems: Opera and Infogenesis.

“Two double oh four” was a busy year, but 2005 promises to be an even busier one, which you correctly understand as meaning you’ll see even less of us *grin*.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy New Year

We wish you all a Wonderful Year, filled with joy and happiness.
