Ever since Nathan got the “Teletubbies in the Snow” DVD he’s been saying we must go find snow – This is not an easy task, especially in the Middle East.
Lucky for us though there’s Snow-World at the Dubai Creek Park: Ang’ had a church ladies meeting this morning and I had my first “two-day” weekend in six months, so the timing was right. Nathan got very excited and insisted he wear his fleece jersey, beanie and gloves as we go “looking” for snow. So after dropping Angela off we headed to the Dubai Creek Park, Entrance number 1 – The admission fee of 25 Dirhams was well spent. The place was also nice and private (i.e. deserted) at 9:35am – I think they must just’ve opened, so we got some personal attention.
We donned the boots and jackets provided – Nathan insisted he get a yellow jacket, even though the red or blue would’ve fitted him much better … *sigh*
Off we went into what is basically a really large meat-locker, with a slope that’s frozen over about 5 meters high and 20 meters long coming down one side. Nathan really LOVED it – I think he realised it wasn’t real snow, but he was polite and didn’t say anything *smile*
We slid down the slope on a little rubber tube together twice, and then Nathan got brave and slid down three times by himself. Afterwards we tried building a snowman, but alas, there just wasn’t enough snow …
The cutest however was when Nathan started shivering, his lips blue, his nose red … I asked “Are you cold buddie?” … “N-n-no” came the shivering reply :-)
Given the fact that neither Angela nor I have ever seen real snow either, we may well start planning a family holiday to a snowy destination sometime in the future – Nathan’s hunger for the cold white stuff has been temporarily satisfied, but I think he’ll start asked for it again soon. We still have to get that snowman build as well …
God Bless
