Unlike the Verrips Family, the Webb Ellis Rugby World Cup will make South Africa home for the next four years or so …
(I received this today via e-mail and enjoyed the “moral” of it very much)
A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. The conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.
Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups — porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain-looking, some expensive and some exquisite – telling them to help themselves to the coffee.
After all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said: “If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken, eaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is but normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, THAT is the source of your problems and stress.”
“Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most cases, it’s just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups and then began eyeing each other’s cups.”
“Now consider this: Life is the coffee . . . and the jobs, houses, cars, things, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain life, and the type of cup we have does not define nor change the quality of life we live. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee God has provided us. God brews the coffee, not the cups.
Enjoy your coffee!
About this time 12 years ago, where were you … Me, I was preparing for a World Cup Rugby final at Ellis Park, Johannesburg. Today, unlike back then, I won’t be able to attend the final game next week to watch South Africa play (England this time, New Zealand back then). However, like back then it was a semi-final in which South Africa dominated – The first 25 minutes or so in the second half saw Argentina fight back very valiantly, but eventually the green and gold flew high.
So it’s South Africa vs. England, in Paris, next week – Can’t hardly wait!
Today while Angela was busy in the kitchen, and the boys were apparently playing nicely in their room, she started hearing the printer going … Wondering what it might be she discovered this …
Our good friend Ingrid stayed with us for the last few days (in transit from her holiday in France to her home in Miri, Malaysia) – We really had a wonderful time with her, although I was recovering from sinus/flu on her first day, and Luke had pink-eye/conjunctivitis for the last couple days. She’s a wonderful Christian friend and Angela in particular enjoyed the company. We thank the Lord for our time with her, and pray blessings on her as she re-united with her husband, Gail.
Luke is teething and has been sick most of last week. He had a very high fever on Friday which Angela managed to Rear-end (*grin*) with modern medicine and control. We only went to the doctor yesterday, and he said: “Too late, Luke seems to be over the worst”, but his nose will most likely continue running like the tap is has been ’till he’s 5 years old or something…
We have to monitor Nathan though (Doc’ said); He has a cough and sore/red throat and if it get’s worse we have a script fot some Anti-Biotics to start him on tomorrow or perhaps Thursday.
I was off work today and yesterday, having started on Anti-B’s after the family visit to the doctor yesterday (brought on mostly by my aching head and dry, irritating cough). It’s the usual case of sinus related flu, bit of phlegm in the lungs …
Angela was just SO wonderful in taking care of us three, these past two days and the rest certainly has put me back on the road to recovery – Will see how first day back at work is tomorrow (assuming I feel as well tomorrow morning as I do now) …
